Figueroa Named ECAC Division III North Rookie of the Week
ECAC Press Release
DANBURY, CT – The Alfred University women's basketball team earned another athletic accolade as first-year guard,
Amanda Figueroa (Cypress, TX/Rosehill Christian) earned Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North Rookie of the Week on Wednesday.
Figueroa had an amazing showing on Tuesday evening against Elmira College. She set her new career-highs in points (27), field goals made and attempted (8-of-14 for 57.1%), free throws made and attempted (8-of-10 for 80.0%) and steals with six. Unfortunately, Figueroa also suffered a hit to her head during the contest at Elmira and was forced to miss the weekend games. She left the road game on Tuesday with seven rebounds (five defensive and two offensive) and made three 3-pointers on the evening. Her six steals have put her above Harley Cleary '15 who was the latest Saxon to earn a spot on the All-Time Top-10 Career Steals list. Cleary never had a game with six steals and only one with five.
On Monday, Figueroa earned her second Empire 8 Rookie of the Week honors. This is her first ECAC honors of her career as a Saxon.
Figueroa and the Saxons will next host Elmira College on Saturday, January 27 at 4PM in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
