BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The awards continue to roll in for the College at Brockport football team, as this past weekend they were named the 2017 Division III Lambert Trophy recipients. The trophy, which is voted on by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers, honors the top East Region team from each division.

This is the second time that the Brockport football program has received the Lambert Trophy, having also been honored after the 2002 season that saw them make a run to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Brockport is joined by Division I (FBS) Penn State, Division I (FCS) James Madison, and Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania as recipients of the illustrious reward.

The Golden Eagles, which finished the season ranked No. 5 in the final D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) polls, made their deepest post-season run in program in history in 2017. The team finished the year with a 13-1 record, falling only to No. 2 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor in the NCAA Semifinals.

This award is the most recent on a long list of honors for the Golden Eagle football team this season, as their historic run has garnered the attention of many. 20 players were honored by the Empire 8 conference after the season, with 10 of those also being recognized as All-East Region players, and four earning All-American status. Head Coach Jason Mangone was also recognized for his breakout season, being named the AFCA Coach of the Year.

Brockport won all 13 of their games against East Region opponents in 2017, including three that came against top-25 teams. Their final win of the season came on a last second field goal against No. 7 Delaware Valley, sending the team to their first ever NCAA Final Four.
