Fisher Men's Track and Field Climbs to 11th in the Latest National Ranking
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's track and field team jumped an impressive four spots in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division III National Championships rankings to the 11th spot overall. The team amassed 61.99 total points in the poll, gaining 13.75 since the last ranking. The annoucement marked the highest ranking the Cardinals have ever received in the national poll.
Senior Peter Girardi leads the way for the Cardinals with a rank of fourth nationally in the 400-meter event with a scored performance of 48.20 seconds. The Cicero native also ranks ninth nationally in the 60-meter hurdles event with an 8.15 time stamp.
Girardi is accompanied by Eddie Mahana in the 60-meter hurdles, with Mahana ranking 19th overall with a time of 8.27.
Just last week at the Brockport Invitational, the Cardinals took the top spot in the distance medley relay. The team consisting of Girardi, James Felice, Jack Behlmaier and Mac Milligan recorded a time of 10:23.37, which converts to a banked time of 10:15.02. This time broke the school's standing record and ranks the team currently fifth in the nation.
As for field events, Kyle Rollins currently holds the number four spot in the nation in the high jump event with a mark of 2.12 meters.
Mark VanMarter ranks ninth in the nation in the long jump event with a best jump of 7.21 meters.
The Cardinals return to competition at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2 with the team competing in the RIT Invite located in the Gene Polisseni Center.
