November 5 – November 11
Men’s Basketball
Player – Henry Cuffee, Elmira (Senior, Bel Air, Md.)
Cuffee scored a team-high 24 points in 26 minutes of action in the 2018-19 season-opener against SUNY Cortland, a 102-94 loss. He was extremely efficient from the field, shooting 64% (9-14), including a blistering 6-7 from the three-point line.
Rookie – Kyle Kokoskie, Elmira (Freshman, Glen Gardner, N.J.)
Kokoskie finished with two points and four assists and one rebound in his first collegiate game over the weekend. He logged 18 minutes of action in his Elmira debut.
Women’s Basketball
Player – Amber Edwards, Houghton (Senior, Greenwood, N.Y.)
Edwards came off the bench and helped lead the Highlanders to a win over Pitt-Bradford. She posted 20 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists in 26 minutes of action in Houghton’s season-opening 70-53 win.
Rookie – Jess Broad, Stevens (Freshman, Marlboro, N.J.)
Broad came off the bench to total 42 points on 16-of-24 shooting, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc over a pair of games to start the season. The freshman forward was instrumental in Stevens' come-from-behind victory over Catholic, netting 28 points and making six of seven free throws to help seal the win. She also totaled six rebounds, a block, seven steals and three assists.
Football
Offensive Player – Joe Germinerio, Brockport (Junior, Wynantskill, N.Y.)
Germinerio helped lead the Golden Eagles to an undefeated season, capping off 2018 with a 49-7 road win over Morrisville State. The junior had a stellar day under center for the Green and Gold, completing 32-of-41 passes, for 341-passing yards and four touchdowns. He wasn’t done there, as the Wynantskill, N.Y. native also added a pair of scores on the ground, picking up 65-rushing yards.
Defensive Player – Justin Wheeler, St. John Fisher (Sophomore, Bighamton, N.Y.)
Wheeler had nine tackles in the Cardinals' come-from-behind win against Buffalo State on Saturday including two tackles for a loss and a sack. He also forced a fumble and had two fumble recoveries, including one that he returned 21 yards to pay dirt to tie the game at 28-28 in the fourth quarter.
Special Teams Player - Tim Hogan, Utica (Sophomore, Glen Cove, N.Y.)
Hogan needed just fourteen seconds to give Utica the lead for good in their 75-14 rout of Hartwick in Empire 8 play. The sophomore ran back the opening kickoff 81 yards for the first return touchdown of his career. The runback was the longest of the season for Utica, and the eighth-longest in school history.
Swimming & Diving
Men’s Athlete – Chris Deaver, Alfred (Senior, Warwick, N.Y.)
Deaver picked up two overall wins in a tri-meet against Fredonia and the University of Rochester on Saturday. He claimed an overall win on the 1-meter board with a score of 274.30 but the real story came on the 3-meter. Deaver's winning score of 296.30 qualified him for the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet in March.
Women’s Athlete – Taylor Robey, Nazareth (Sophomore, Hurley, N.Y.)
Robey was in on four winning events in Nazareth's dual meet loss to Rochester Saturday. She won the 50- and 100-meter freestyles in :27.57 and 1:00.30, respectively. She also anchored Nazareth's school-record breaking 200-meter medley relay (2:04.12) and was part of the winning 400-meter free relay (4:09.00).
