Brockport's Germinerio Repeats as Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year as League Announces Annual Awards, All-Conference Teams
E8 Champion Brockport Places 12 Student-Athletes on First Team
Brockport's
Joe Germinerio was named the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, it was announced today. It's the second straight season that Germinerio has been recognized as, once-again, he helped lead the Golden Eagles to the E8 regular season title.
Germinerio was one of three major awards doled out to the conference champions. Brockport's
Austin Dean was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, while the Golden Eagles Coaching Staff, led by head coach
Jason Mangone, earned E8 Staff of the Year. The other major awards were handed out to Cortland's
Nick Mongelli, who was recognized as the league's Special Teams Player of the Year, while Utica's
Logan Wilcox was honored as the conference's Rookie of the Year.

CLOSER LOOK
It's the third major award Germinerio has garnered during his time at Brockport. The two-time offensive player of the year was also named the conference's Rookie of the Year his first year on campus. So far this season, he has accounted for 3,225 yards of total offense. His 2,895 yards passing leads the league, while his 330 yards on the ground also puts him in the top ten in that category. He's also currently tied for tops in the league in passing touchdowns (26), while his seven interceptions is best among those that have started every game for their teams. Germinerio has thrown two or more touchdown passes in a game eight times so far this season, and twice has thrown for four scores. He was also recognized as a First Team All-Conference selection.
Germinerio's teammate, Dean, earned honors on the defensive side. So far in 2018, Dean has posted 45 tackles and 6.5 sacks leading a stout Golden Eagles' defensive front. His 13 tackles for loss also places him in the top-five in the Empire 8. Dean has also registered 11 quarterback hurries and has blocked a pair of kicks. He was also a First Team All-Conference selection.
Mongelli had a terrific year serving as Cortland's place kicker this fall. He made eight of nine field goal attempts, including a 41-yarder this season. He added 47 made PAT's for 71 points on the season, third-best in the conference. Mongelli was also recognized as a First Team All-Conference honoree.
Utica's Wilcox made an immmediate impact in his first year for the Pioneers. The first-year quarterback threw for 2,725 yards in his first year. He would complete 202-394 pass attempts during his freshman campaign, including 23 touchdown passes. His best game of the season came this past weekend as he threw for 467 yards and two touchdowns in the Pioneers' win over Ithaca.
The Brockport coaching staff, led by Mangone, was once again recognized as the E8 Coaching Staff of the Year. It's the second-straight year they've been honored by their peers. The third-ranked Golden Eagles are currently in the midst of another banner season. They are currently 11-0 and will host RPI in an NCAA Tournament Second Round game this coming weekend. Their offense has generated 40 or more points eight times so far this season, and 19 Brockport student-athletes were named All-Conference selections.
