HOBOKEN, N.J. (February 9, 2018) – Senior Megan Brown recorded her 1,000th career point, freshman Christina Li sank a school-record seven three-pointers as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated Alfred University 96-53 Friday evening in an Empire 8 matchup at Canavan Arena.
Entering play, Brown needed four points to reach the career mark. The Laurel, Maryland native scored the game's first points off the opening tip and then scored after collecting an offensive rebound with 50 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, to the delight of her teammates and the home crowd.
After watching her teammate achieve a career milestone, Li etched her name in the record books by shooting 7-of-12 from behind the arc to finish with a career-high 28 points. Alumna Mia Molfino, Sarah Gehring and Erica Guketlov shared the previous record of six, last reached by Guketlov on March 4, 2016. As a team, the Ducks connected for 15 threes, also setting a new school mark.
The victory was the second straight for Stevens, who improved to 10-12 on the year and 7-6 in conference play.
