BOSTON, Mass. -- Nazareth's Emily Thompson, a graduate student on the Golden Flyers' track and field team, shattered the school record Friday in the 5,000-meter run as she placed 14th in that event at Boston University's Valentine Invitational.
In a race with 50 competitors from all different levels of experience, Thompson posted a time of 17:07.61 to shatter the Nazareth school record by more than a minute. She also was the second fastest Division III competitor as she trailed only Ashlynn Bagge of Wartburg (Iowa), who finished seventh in 16:54.48. Thompson's time was the 10th fastest in Division III this season. The school record she broke was 18:11.54 set by Gabrielle LeBihan in 2014.
