Four members of the Empire 8 cross country programs were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honorees, while three men's and three women's teams were recognized as All-Academic squads, announced Friday, February 9. 

For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall, there were 388 teams honored by the USTFCCCA today. Of those teams, 221 of them were women’s programs and 167 of them were men’s.

A total of 668 student-athletes (368 women, 300 men) from across the country were honored for having at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average while finishing in the top-25 percent at their respective NCAA Regional Championships. 

St. John Fisher College men's team earned a 3.41 team gpa, while Stevens Institute of Technology earned a 3.32 and Utica College posted a 3.17 gpa.

The Stevens women posted a team GPA of 3.65, which ranked the highest within the E8 women's teams. Joining Stevens with the team honor is Fisher (3.52) and Utica College (3.22).

Individually PJ Gunther of Stevens and Utica's Tyler Wright, MaKenna Cooley and Kaitlyn Stinson met the requirement to land on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
