Fisher Men's Track and Field Breaks into the Top Ten in the Latest National Poll

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's track and field team broke the top ten for the first time in its history in the latest NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Poll. The team jumped from the 13th spot held last week, to tenth in week four of the rankings. Fisher currently holds 71.88 total points in the poll, just 0.61 points from the ninth spot.

Senior Peter Girardi leads the Cardinals, currently ranked nationally in four separate events. Girardi ranks fourth overall in the 400-meter dash with a banked time of 48.20 seconds, to go along with a 38th overall ranking in the 800-meter event with a time of 1:54.59.

Eddie Mahana sits tied for sixth overall in the 60-meter hurdles race with a time stamp of 8.16 seconds. Girardi finds himself in the 14th spot in the race, clocking in at 8.27 seconds.

The distance medley relay team consisting of Girardi, James Felice, Jack Behlmaier and Mac Milligan is currently at 16th in the nation with a banked time of 10:15.02.

As for field events, the Cardinals have freshman Kyle Rollins and senior Mark VanMarter pacing the Cardinals in two events apiece.

Rollins is ranked third overall in the high jump event with a best mark of 2.12 meters, as well as 23rd nationally in the heptathlon. The freshman competed in the heptathlon for the first time ever at the collegiate level on February 3rd and 4th, where he accumulated 4,691 points, and broke the collegiate freshman record previously held by Devin Cornelius.

Senior VanMarter has the highest ranking of any Cardinal, finding himself in the top spot nationally in the high jump event, with an astounding mark of 7.36 meters. The Liverpool native also ranks 23rd in the triple jump event with a leap of 14.23 meters.

The Cardinals return to competition on Saturday, February 17th as the team is slated to compete in the Golden Eagle Invite on the campus of the College at Brockport.
