Stevens Takes the Lead in Men's Swimming and Diving Championship

Day Two Results 

The second day of competition at the Empire 8 Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships has come to a close.

Two tenths separated the two three teams in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Stevens won for the fifth straight season, touching the wall in 1:24.14. Kurt von Autenried, Trevor Hinds, Matt Shaw and Theo Jagodits combined for the win. Nazareth’s time of 1:24.34 earned second and Hartwick College took third 1:25.97.
 
Nazareth finished 1-2 in the 400-individual medley relay. Senior Alex Lapoint claimed the title the second time in his career, previously winning in 2016. Lapoint clocked a time of 4:04.24 and was followed by junior Bob Draper (4:09.36). Stevens junior Chris Ludeke was third in 4:12.59.

The top two times in the 100 Butterfly finals tonight came from the Stevens Ducks.  Vinny Tavoletti defended his title as he captured the conference crown in a time of 50.56, edging out Stephen Barlow (50.59) by three-hundredths of a second, while Alfred senior Joe Lawrence claimed third place in 50.85).
 
Stevens freshman Theo Jagodits claimed top honors in the 200 freestyle, marking only the second time a Duck has won the event in Empire 8 Championship history. Jagodits clocked a time of 1:43.36 to finish ahead of Utica junior TJ Tellekamp (1:44.27) and Alfred’s Alec Toth (1:44.79).
 
Ending the night was the 400 Medley Relay and Stevens won the title for the fourth straight year and the fifth time in the last six years.  The Duck quartet of Blake Holland, Tyler Zanki, Vinney Tavoletti and Theo Jagodits swam a time of 3:24.62. Nazareth finished second in 3:26.15 and Alfred was third (3:27.12).
