Nazareth Wins Women's Swimming & Diving Title for the First Time

WEBSTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's swimming and diving team completed the task Saturday as they held off runner-up Stevens Institute of Technology to win their first-ever Empire 8 Conference Championship at Webster Aquatic Center.
Fueled by a first-place finishes by freshman Taylor Robey in the 100 freestyle and Taylor Woltz in 3-meter diving, plus a second-place swim by junior Brittany Heffler in the 200 breaststroke, Nazareth was able to overcome a 28-point first-day deficit to outpoint Stevens 838-810 to take the title. Scott Whitbeck was recognized as co-Coach of the meet for the men and Coach of the Meet for the women.
Stevens senior Katie Prescott was named Outstanding Women's Swimmer of the Meet. On the final day of competition, Prescott earned a B-cut time of 2:20.13 to win the 200-yard breaststroke by over five seconds.
Hartwick finished third with 748 points, followed by Alfred with 460 and Utica with 378.
Robey narrowly missed a B-cut NCAA qualifying time as she touched the wall in :51.86 to take the 100 free. She also captured the 50 freestyle earlier in the week.
Woltz outpointed Alfred's Victoria Cramp 461.05-387.85 to win the diving competition.
Nazareth had four swimmers in the 200 breaststroke final with Heffler recording a second-place finish in 2:25.75 to finish behind Jones. She was followed by senior Erika Holland in third place (2:27.80).
Hartwick's Channing Lewis finished first as the Empire 8 Champion in the 200 back with a time of 2:08.90. Alfred's Lauren Serotta raced to a school-record time of 2:11.34 in the finals to place second.
Stevens took the top two spots in the 1,650 free. Sophomores Samantha Geyer and Samantha
Zdesar finished the race in 17:47.31 and 17:54.01, respectively.
The teams closed the grueling four-day meet the the 400 free relay. The Stevens quartet of Isabella Fairman, Geyer, Zdesar and Courtney Jones took the top spot by nearly three seconds.
