Nazareth draws Hamilton in NCAA Tournament

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's Empire 8 Conference champion men's basketball team will face Hamilton College in Friday's first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at York College in Pennsylvania. Game time is to be determined. The games will be web-streamed through York's website at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ycp/

The Golden Flyers, 20-7 overall, gained an automatic berth to the tournament after winning the E8 title over the weekend with thrilling victories over Alfred and Utica. Hamilton, which competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, completed the regular season at 22-4 overall after falling to Williams in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Therefore, the Continentals, ranked 13th by d3hoops.com, were one of 21 at-large selections to the 64-team tournament.

York, 23-4 and ranked 12th by d3hoops.com, will host Skyline Conference champion Yeshiva (18-10) in Friday's other game. The winners will play again Saturday at York for a spot in the Sweet 16.

Nazareth and Hamilton (of Clinton, N.Y.) used to play regularly in men's basketball, but haven't squared off since 1993. The Continentals have won nine of 15 meetings. In terms of common opponents in 2017-18, Nazareth and Hamilton each played Oswego and Utica. Hamilton defeated Oswego 75-69 and Utica 90-85. Nazareth beat Oswego 79-69 and won two of three meetings with Utica, including the E8 title game.

The Golden Flyers will be making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearances and second under the direction of ninth-year head coach Kevin Broderick.
