CoSIDA Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
On the day Justin Porrett '19 of the Elmira College men's basketball team was recognized as an Empire 8 All-Conference Honorable Mention, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the third-year guard was named a First Team Academic All-District honoree.

A Finance and Accounting double-major, Porrett was one of seven student-athletes named to the First Team for District III, which covers all colleges and universities in New York. He boasts a 3.56 cumulative grade-point average and has received Empire 8 President's List accolades on three occasions. Off of the court, the Dumont, New Jersey, native is involved in student government as a member of the Finance Board and presides over EC's Investment Club. In March, Porrett will be inducted into the Elmira chapter of the National Leadership Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa.

On the hardwood, the junior point guard recorded career highs across the board with averages of 12.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game. The latter not only set a new program single-season record but leads all of Division III. With a total of 212 assists, Porrett ranks first in the nation and broke a 31-year-old team record, initially set by Reggie Rollins '88 in the 1986-87 season. Porrett trails only Rollins (488) on Elmira's career assists leaderboard with 417 dimes in his first three years sporting the Purple and Gold.

On December 16, Porrett helped the Soaring Eagles generate an offensive performance for the ages in a game in which EC topped St. Lawrence by a 111-100 final score. In that contest, he dished out a program- and Empire 8-record 19 assists, one of his eight outings with double-digit dimes. On January 23 against Nazareth, he logged his first career triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, Elmira's first triple-double in over 17 years.

CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams are designed to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. As a member of the Academic All-District III First Team, Porrett will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in March.
