Dr. Adam Pack, a professor of Biology at Utica College, has been named the new faculty athletic representative (FAR) chair of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference, replacing Darwyn Cook of Alfred University who has served in the role since the spring of 2013.

“We have been fortunate to have Darwyn help guide the educational mission for our conference, and we are grateful for his dedicated service to our student-athletes,” said Commissioner Chuck Mitrano.

In his new role, Pack will work closely with top university administrators to support an environment where academics remain a central focus in college sports.

“I look forward to contributing to what is already an excellent conference athletically and academically,” stated Pack.

Pack will work with the FARs from the eight other E8 schools to make recommendations regarding the role of faculty in athletic department policy-making; athletic seasons and scheduling and their impact on academics and student welfare; and standards that will promote academic success of student-athletes.

“We look forward to the insight and guidance that Adam will provide the conference in the coming years,” said Mitrano.

Dr. Pack, is currently in his 17th year at Utica and his course load includes Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Gross anatomy, Histology, and Sensory Neuroscience. His research interests involve the study of sensory transduction (mostly mechanotransduction, eg hearing, balance, touch) and particularly the role of non-neural cells in that process. In 2011, he was awarded the Harold T. Clark award for outstanding scholarship at Utica College.

Pack has served as the Faculty Athletic Representative for the last five years and attended the FAR Fellows Institute in 2016.

Pack holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Binghamton University and earned his Ph.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology from Upstate Medical University.
