SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (February 4, 2018) – Senior Julianna Ricci of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse program was the school's recipient of the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year award in a ceremony in conjunction with National Girls and Women in Sports Day at Seton Hall University on Sunday.
Award winners are chosen by their institution's athletics department based upon athletic excellence, academic success and citizenship/community service. More than 150 high-school and junior and senior college student-athletes earned the award in 2015.
"We are so proud that Julianna that was selected to represent Stevens as the NJAIAW Woman of the Year," said head coach
Celine Cunningham of the Stevens women's lacrosse program. "She is a standout in the classroom and on the field, but what is most impressive is her leadership ability. Julianna has made a big impact on our program and is a great example of the strong, driven student-athletes at Stevens."
Ricci has been a starter since her freshman year for the Ducks, and has been named to both the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll and the E8 President's List. She has scored 62 goals in her career with 93 ground balls.
Just this year, Ricci volunteered with Stevens' edition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the One Love event at the New York Jets training facility and the Ho-Boo-ken 5k race. She was named a captain for the Ducks' 2018 season.
Ricci's senior season will get underway on February 25 at St. Joseph's College of Long Island.
