Stenglein and Iton Named All-East Region By NABC

Nazareth College senior Tyler Stenglein and Utica Collge senior Ivan Iton have been named All-East Region by The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). This award recognizes the best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division, selected by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division III.
Stenglein garnered first team honors, while Iton was tabbed second team.
Stenglein is the first Nazareth player to earn NABC All-Region recognition since Mitch Ford garnered second team honors in 2015-16. The Rochester native is also the first to make the First Team since Corey McAdam did so in the 2009-10 season.
The Empire 8 Player of the Year averaged 19.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists during his senior campaign to help the Golden Flyers earn the Empire 8 regular season championship. He later went on to be named the Most Valuable Player of the Empire 8 Championship as he helped the Golden Flyers defeat Utica in the title game, 66-64, including draining the game-winning layup with :03 seconds remaining.
For the season, Stenglein scored in double figures in 23-of-26 games, while scoring a career-high 35 points in a 96-89 victory over Stevens on January 19.
Iton, who named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, finished the year ranked seventh in the Conference with an average of 16.1 points per game. He led the league with an average of 9.7 rebounds per game and ranked 14th nationally with an average of 2.5 blocks per game.
He led the Pioneers to 17 victories (most since 2009) and their first appearance in the E8 title game since 2007.
He will graduate ranked fifth on the College's all-time scoring list with 1,286 career points. He also ranks second all-time at UC with 160 career blocks and third all-time with 804 career rebounds.
Iton is the first Pioneer since Doug Herring back in 2009 to earn a spot on the NABC All-District Team.
