DANBURY, CT -- The Alfred University softball team had a strong start of the season, going 7-5 on its Spring Break Training trip to Kissimmee, FL last week which led to some top performances as first-year
Sydney Saucedo (Whittier, CA/La Serna) was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
This is Saucedo's first weekly honor besides also being listed as one of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Plays of the Week.
Saucedo finished the week with a team leading 11 runs scored. The rookie went 15-for-43 (.349) as she drove in three runs and smacked her first collegiate triple against Aurora University. She then totaled three runs on a 2-for-5 showing against Montclair State University with one RBI. Defensively, Saucedo never missed a play in center field as she recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Saucedo and the Saxons will next look to host Keuka College in a non-conference double-header on Saturday, March 24 with the first game at 1PM at Harrington Field.
