Auburndale, FL – The Utica College baseball team continued play at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational with a doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan University on Wednesday. The Pioneers split the series on the day taking game one by a score of 15-2, before falling 5-4 in the second game. Utica junior Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) went 4-for-8 on the day and joined the 100 hit club after belting a home run in game one. Quinlan now has a team-high 13 hits this season and 101 hits for his career. 
 
Game 1:
 
Sophomore pitcher Griffin Baur (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) controlled the game from the mound, tossing 5.1 innings with eight strikeouts. Baur earned the win, making his record 3-0 so far this season, and allowed just two earned runs on three hits. Kolbie Glionna (Hagaman, NY/Amsterdam) came on in relief of Baur, allowing just one hit and striking out three to close out the contest. 
 
The UC bats provided solid run support in the contest as seven different players knocked in at least one RBI. Ryan Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) went 3-for-4 at the plate which included his first collegiate three-run homer in the fourth inning. Palmer tallied four RBI's and scored three runs for the team. Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) also registered a three-run homer to go along with one triple, as he finished 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI's. Tom Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) batted 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI's, while teammate Jake Ryan (Kingston, NY/Kingston) went 3-for-5 with one RBI.
 
Iowa Wesleyan's Justin Klug and Thomas Yancey both batted 1-for-1 and tallied one RBI in the sixth inning of the loss. Ruben Ramirez was one of four pitchers to step on the mound for the Tigers, as he received the loss after allowing six earned runs in four innings of action. Ramirez's record now sits at 0-1 on the year.
 
Game 2:
 
Utica trailed, 5-1, entering the bottom of the third inning before making a comeback. The Pioneers scored three unanswered runs, but could not complete the comeback as they lost 5-4.
 
Jake Ryan (Kingston, NY/Kingston) stayed consistent at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Ryan scored two runs for UC and also stole one base. Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) went 1-for-3 at the plate scoring one run, while Matthew Leviton (South River, NJ/South River) batted 1-for-3 as well with one RBI.
 
Iowa Wesleyan's Benjamin Steorts hit a home run in the third inning as he finished 1-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. Joseph Belarde batted 3-for-4 in the contest, scoring one run and stealing two bases. Tyler Cooksey rattled off one double and tallied two RBI's to help the Tigers improve to 6-6 on the season. Avery Mobley earned the win on the mound to earn a 1-0 record, pitching a complete game.
 
Alex Rocci (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) was given the decision for UC, as the loss brings his record to 1-1 on the season. In just over two innings pitched, Rocci allowed five earned runs and struck out three batters. Brett Sarnowski (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) entered the game in relief, as he recorded eight strikeouts in over four innings pitched and allowed just one hit.
 
The Pioneers move to 5-4 on the year with just one game left to play at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational. The team faces off against the University of Maine-Farmington on Thursday at 9 a.m.
