The Empire 8 men's lacrosse teams will be taking part in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/HEADstrong Cancer Awareness Month during the month of April.

The HEADstrong Foundation's mission is supporting families who have been subjected to cancer diagnosis.

With the help of the USILA, the Foundation empowers all NCAA Division I, II, III programs to raise funds and awareness to support the efforts of HEADstrong and Nick's House, which is a guest family home that provides lodging and support to families forced to travel for life-saving cancer treatment.

Throughout the month teams will be encouraged to pledge a home game and raise funds in support of the cause. Coaches plan to show their support by wearing a commemorative pin and teams are encouraged to further support this initiative by purchasing and wearing “lime green” accessories including shoelaces, knee bands, crew socks or patches.

Games within the Empire 8 that have been designated include:

March 31: ALFRED v Hartwick
April 4: HOUGHTON v Delhi
April 7: ELMIRA v Naz
April 7: HARTWICK v Houghton
April 7: UTICA v Stevens
April 14: STEVENS v Hartwick
April 21: NAZARETH v Alfred

The USILA backed cancer awareness initiative was created in 2016 with a designated week and was expanded in last season to encompass the entire month. In 2017, more than 144 teams raised more than $75,000 to support the cause and this year the USILA is aiming for 100% participation with hopes of raising $127,000 for the cause.

In addition, the St. John Fisher College men's team will be participating in Goal4theGoal this year for two of their games with Hamilton (March 27) and Utica (April 14).  SJFC team page - https://donate.go4thegoal.org/team/155689
