BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 10, 2018) – Junior Alex Kainer became the first-ever All-American for the Stevens Institute of Technology men's track & field program on Saturday by taking fifth in the 200 meters at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
It is the first All-American distinction for any male in Stevens cross country, indoor or outdoor history, which dates to 1909.
The South Brunswick native ran the second-fastest time of his career, 21.93 seconds, .02 seconds faster than his qualifying time on Friday.

Two weeks ago before the Empire 8 Championships, Kainer was not nationally-ranked in the 200, yet completed the season as the fifth-best athlete in the country at that distance.
"Today was an incredible day for Stevens TF," said head coach
Justin Wood. "This is the first time we've had five All-Americans (previous best was 4 from 2014) and the first All-American in men's program history. We are so proud of all of them for their hard work and for the success they earned this weekend."
With the four points earned by Kainer, the Ducks finished 50th in the nation as a team.
