Heedram Places 11th at NCAA's in Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Utica College sophomore thrower
Keanu Heedram (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) placed 11th in the shot put competition at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday. Heedram, who was the only student-athlete from a New York school to qualify for nationals in the shot put, posted a distance of 15.64 meters on his third and final throw of the day to place 11th out of 15 competitors.
The top nine finishers after three throws advanced and the top eight finishers were named All-Americans.
Heedram began the afternoon with a throw of 14.64 meters. He followed up with a throw of 14.71 meters in his second attempt, and capped the day with a throw of 15.64 meters.
He entered nationals ranked ninth on the indoor qualifying list after breaking his own school record last weekend at regionals with a first place toss of 16.71 meters.
Heedram is the first thrower in program history to earn a spot at nationals. He was also the Empire 8 Conference champion in the shot put after breaking the conference record with a throw of 16.25m. Heedram placed first in eight of the nine shot put competitions he entered this indoor season.
Heedram and the Pioneers will now look towards the outdoor season, where he excels in the discus.
