Weeks Earns All-American to Highlight Day One of NCAA’s for Track & Field

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 9, 2018) – Junior Katie Weeks put up a big new PR and earned All-America status in the weight throw to highlight the first day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships for the Stevens Institute of Technology programs on Friday. Sophomore Gina Dello Russo ran the ninth-fastest time in NCAA Division III history in the 400 and junior Alex Kainer qualified for the finals in the 200-meters in other notable achievements for the Ducks n Friday.

Weeks entered the weight throw competition seeded 16th in the 17-person field, but finished seventh with a new personal best by a whopping eight centimeters to 17.27 meters. By finishing seventh she earned All-America status in the event.
 
Dello Russo qualified for the finals to be held on Saturday in both the 400- and 200-meter events. She will be seeded No. 2 and No.3, respectively, in those finals based on qualifying times. Both times (55.39 and 24.83 seconds) were huge personal bests and new school-records.
 
"Katie's All-American honor is an incredible accomplishment," said head coach Justin Wood. "This is her first year of really working with the weight throw and she finishes the indoor season as one of the top throwers in the country!"
