Five E8 Schools Ranked in 2018 Winter Learfield Directors' Cup Standings
Stevens Institute of Technology heads the list of five Empire 8 schools found in the final winter standings of the 2017-18
Division III Learfield Director's Cup with 318.50 points.
The Ducks, who were 34th after the fall season, have moved up to 26th after making national tournament appearances in women's basketball, women's indoor track and field, men's indoor track and field and men's wrestling.
Elmira entered the standings after its runner-up finish in women's hockey and ranks 119th with 90 points.
St. John Fisher College earned 66.7 points in the winter thanks to the men's indoor track and field team. Mark VanMarter was crowned the national champion in the long jump and teammates Peter Girardi and Kyle Rollins earned All-American finishes.
Nazareth College is ranked 157th after earning points in men's basketball and women's indoor track and field. The Golden Flyers made their eighth NCAA basketball tournament appearance and Alycia Eaton place third in the triple jump with a school record leap of 11.89 meters.
Alfred University enters the rankings thanks to senior Seth Spicer's eight place finish at the NCAA indoor track and field championship in the heptatlon. The Saxons are ranked 286th.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
