Shane Weber Named to USILA Division III Team of the Week

PERRY, NY -- Sophomore captain and defenseman, Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) of the Alfred University men's lacrosse team was selected as one of 10 players, nationally, as a member of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Team of the Week on Thursday.

Weber also recently earned ECAC Division III North Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, Empire 8 Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week and Saxon of the Week for his performances last week.

Weber had a dominant week, defensively. He led the Saxons in ground balls and caused turnovers during Alfred University's 1-1 week. Weber had an outstanding, 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers against Elmira College in the Saxons' Empire 8 Conference-opening win. Earlier in the week, he had eight ground balls and five caused turnovers against Oswego State. In both games, Weber took one shot, put it on goal and behind the goalie as he tallied his first two goals of the season. He also was credited with an assist in both matches. During his first season as a Saxon, Weber totaled two goals and one assist as he now stands above his previous season. He also had a total of 33 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers while he now sits at 42 and 26, respectively, en route to breaking all of his season marks.

On Wednesday night, Weber scored his third goal in a row while also leading his team in groundballs with six and tying with fellow sophomore teammate Ben Cafolla (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) for the team lead in caused turnovers with four each.
