Fisher Extends its Lead at Empire 8 Championship

HERSHEY, Pa. –
The St. John Fisher College men's golf team extended its lead to 47 strokes after the first 18 holes of the Empire 8 Spring Championship on Saturday at the par-71, 6,551-yard Hershey Country Club. 
 
Fisher, which entered the tournament with a 28-stroke lead through 36 holes, will look to claim its eighth straight Empire 8 Championship on Sunday as the Cardinals complete the final 18 holes of the Championship in Hershey.
 
As a team, Fisher fired a combined score of 304 (+19) on the day while Stevens Institute of Technology carded a team score of 323 (+39).  Utica College was +47 overall while SUNY Oswego came in two strokes back at +49.
 
Nicholas Calabrese, who entered the tournament as the only player under par, finished his round at two-over (73) after finishing at even par on the back nine courtesy of a pair of birdies on the 12th and 14th holes, respectively.  Calabrese is in first place through 54 holes at +1 overall. Colin McGaugh, the reigning Empire 8 Golfer of the Week, was seven-over on the day despite two birdies on the front nine to sit in a tie for fourth place while Christopher Thompson is in second place on the round with a 76 on the day.  Brandon Fink is tied for fourth overall on the day after shooting a +7 and Christopher Fritch is third at six-over.

Utica's Patrick Coughlin tied for sixth out of 44 golfers on the day after carding a +8 score of 79. Utica's Josh Kienz (Newburg, NY/Valley Central) shot an 80 (+9) and is tied for ninth overall.  Mason Munger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) posted an 83 (+12) and is tied for 14th place, while Ian Schaaf (Marshall, NY/Clinton) carded an 89 to finish the day +18 and tied for 26th overall.  Chris Netto (Watertown, NY/Watertown) rounded out the top five scorers for Utica with a 92 and he is currently tied for 32nd. 

With a score of 80, Oswego's Erik Schleicher tied for ninth place overall on the day. Schleicher got off to a strong start on the day, shooting par on the first three holes. Stu Winn also ranks in the top-15, shooting an 83 to clinch a tie for 14th. One stroke behind Winn was Jackson Mordaunt, who tied for 16th. Kyle McCloskey rounded out the top-four Laker scorers with a score of 86 to tie for 19th.
