KUTZTOWN, PA – Senior decathlete, Seth Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) won the Kutztown University Mondschein Multi Maroon title on Friday with a new school record score of 6,598 points.

Spicer broke his own previous personal best score of 6,471 points set last year at the very same meet. He was third after day one with 3,498 points after completing the 100-meter dash (sixth for 719 points), long jump (seventh for 641 points), shot put (first for 676 points), high jump (fifth for 679 points) and the 400-meter dash (second for 783 points).

"I am so proud of Seth [Spicer]," Head Coach Dr. Angie Taylor said. "He hurt his hand warming up for the pole vault when his pole snapped in half. He showed just how competitive and determined he is throughout the rest of the meet."

Despite having scored more points in the first day, compared to the 3,100 points scored on day two, Spicer took first in two events and second in one. He had personal bests in two events. He first PR'd in the discus throw with a toss of 38.88m, topping last year's mark of 38.82m set at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships held at the SPIRE Institute in Ohio. Then, he topped his best mark in the pole vault with a height of 4.05m, defeating his previous best of 4.00m also set at the NCAA Championships last year. Spicer took first in both events.

He then went on to add a second place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.55.  Besides the discus and pole vault, the 1,500 also scored him points in the 600-range with a 658. His top mark of the day in terms of points was the 110-meter hurdles. He scored 732 points on his time of 16.01 (finishing eighth). The only event during the two-day meet that scored more points was his second place finish in the 400-meter dash on day one with a time of 50.70 that earned him a whopping 783 points.

His point total was 588 points better than all of the NCAA Division II Student-Athletes competing in the Gold decathlon. He even defeated an NCAA Division I Student-Athlete from Bucknell University.
