Shankweiler named Sports Imports/AVCA DIII National Player of the Week

Gabe Shankweiler was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week Tuesday, it was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The honor was the first for men's volleyball this season, the second in Shankweiler's career, and the 11th in program history.
Shankweiler played a pivotal role in leading Men's Volleyball to its second United Volleyball Conference championship and an automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Shankweiler totaled 29 kills, four blocks, four aces, one assist and six digs over two matches en route to being name the UVC Tournament's Most Valuable Player. In Stevens' five-set, semifinal victory over NYU, the Allentown, Pennsylvania native collected 18 kills and four digs, including three kills and three digs in the match-deciding set. The outside hitter concluded his weekend with an 11-kill performance in the UVC Championship match as Stevens swept Vassar to claim the league's crown. Shankweiler was the only player from either team to post double-digit kills in the final.

Shankweiler concluded the regular season ranked among the top 50 Division III players in aces per set (28), hitting percentage (43), kills per set (39) and points per set (32) and will finish his career on Castle Point ranked among the program's all-time leaders in kills, kills per set, blocks, aces and digs.
