Fisher Student-Athletes Give Back as Part of the Seventh Annual Giant Read
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Over 40 student-athletes from St. John Fisher College spent their Friday morning taking part in the Giant Read at Wilson Foundation Academy in what has become one of the athletic department's favorite annual community service projects.
The "Giant Read" has students from a variety of Fisher teams visit a selected Rochester city school and read to children from grades kindergarten to second grade. The annual event is part of READ: Hope in Action Program that is designed to promote literacy in the Rochester City School District.
The student-athletes spent nearly an hour with the children in an interactive environment. Fisher students read "The Boy Who Never Gave Up' By Anthony Curcio, which is a story about Golden State Warriors All-Star guard, Steph Curry.
Organized by Fisher's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the "Giant Read" is a project that the College has been involved with for seven years and is part of a much larger effort as other Rochester-area College's participate as well.
