Sharon Brodie is the head Athletic Trainer at the Sage Colleges.

Where did you attend college? What was your major? Where you a student-athlete? I attended Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) from 1992-94 and majored in Physical Education Teacher Certification. I was a two-sport athlete playing Basketball and Softball. I then transferred to The College of Saint Rose for Elementary Education and had to have shoulder surgery essentially ending my collegiate athletic career. I took a year off to re-focus and found Keene State in Keene, NH with a sports medicine degree offering. I attended Keene from 1996-1998 graduating with a BS degree in Sports Medicine.

What made you chose to attend the institution as an undergrad and/or graduate student? I chose HVCC as I was attending college for the first time as an adult learner and was paying for it myself. It was very affordable and gave me the encouragement that I needed to be a successful student and student athlete.

Keene State I chose for the size of the campus, the beauty of the campus, the small-town feel, and the friendly staff and professors. I absolutely loved Keene and didn’t want to leave.

How long have you been working at Sage? Twelve years

What interested you and brought you to Sage?  I am a small-town girl and Sage is a small sized campus. I was working at a local high school through a clinic outreach program and was an ACI for Sage’s athletic training program. I enjoyed the student that I was assigned and began to want the atmosphere of the collegiate setting again. The Head Athletic Training position opened up and the rest is history.

What is the best thing about the Campus?  I love the “small town” feel of the campus. I know all of the student athletes, class year, and sport they play. Although we have just added two more teams and I imagine this will become more challenging to do.

When you hear “Sage” what is the first word that comes to mind?  -Small and family oriented

Who has been the most influential person during your career? -Dr. Sherry Bovinet from KSC. She challenged me and pushed me to be a better clinician, person, and adult. I have tremendous respect for Dr. Bovinet even though we butted heads at times, especially if I felt that she was wrong in class. Never ever roll your eyes at your mentor and program director; that is one of the best life lessons I learned from her - Control your emotions, especially with your superiors.

What do you do in your spare time?   Hmmm what spare time? I have a six-year-old son that keeps me hopping, but I mostly enjoy building a bonfire, listening to country music and relaxing with an adult beverage or two with my wife.

Top 3 things on your bucket list?  1.) Build my own tiny house on a lake in New England. 2.) Travel to Europe (Scotland my heritage, Paris, Madrid). 3.) visit all of the professional baseball stadiums.

What is something most people don’t know about you?  I love to go camping in a tent on the beach.
