PHILADELPHIA -- Emily Thompson continued her assault on the Nazareth track and field record book Thursday as she shattered her own school record in the 10,000-meter run at the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

The graduate student finished in 11th place among 24 competitors -- and second among Division III runners -- with a time of 35:59.46. That eclipsed her school record of 38:27.04 by nearly two and a half minutes. She ran that time back in 2014. Thursday's performance ranks her among the top 15 performers in Division III this season.

The only Division III runner to finish before Thompson was Taryn Cordani of Ithaca, who ran second in 33:44.06.

Thursday's result was another highlight in strong season for Thompson, who competed at the NCAA indoor championships in March. Earlier this spring, she broke her own school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:25.40 at Bucknell. She also ran 17:07.61 in Boston during the indoor season in the 5,000.
