Watlington and Fitzgerald Set School Records at Hamilton Mid-Week Invite
Clinton, NY – The Utica College men's track & field team competed at the 2018 Hamilton Mid-Week Invitational on Tuesday at Pritchard Track on the campus of Hamilton College.
Ka'Sean Watlington (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Bluepoint) broke the school-record in the triple jump and placed first overall with a distance of 14.58 meters. Watlington now ranks 10
th on the NCAA Div. III Outdoor qualifying list.
Patrick Fitzgerald (Clinton, NY/Notre Dame) broke the school-record in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.50 meters to take home first place. Senior
Sam Bonk (Williamsville, NY/Clarence) broke 50 meters for the first time this outdoor season in the hammer throw as he placed first with a toss of 50.39 meters.
Keanu Heedram (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) put together a strong performance in the shot put as he posted his top throw of the current outdoor season and placed first with a toss of 15.80 meters. His distance currently ranks 15
th on the national outdoor qualifying list. The throw is just .08 meters shy of his own outdoor school-record. Heedram also won the men's discus with a distance of 45.50 meters and
Jude Manford (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge High School) placed second in the same event with a throw of 43.93 meters.
Desmond Akpanoko (Roosevelt, NY/Roosevelt) placed first in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.14 meters.
Kevin Gangemi (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central High School) broke 50 seconds for the first time this outdoor season as he placed first in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 49.65.
Nicholas Ashton (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) added a first-place finish in the 800 meter run with a season-best time of 1:58.39.
Sophomore
Mitchell Marlow (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) placed second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:14.98 and he also added a third place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:19.07.
Phillip Cruz-Rodriguez (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto) placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.30, while
Tyler Wright (Little Falls, NY/West Canada Valley) broke one minute in the 400 meter hurdles and placed fourth with a time of 59.59. Wright also won the steeplechase with a time of 10:23.75 and is now eligible to compete for an Empire 8 title in the event.
