Bollin and Schindler Notch 100th Career Points; Ballin Sets Record for Draw Controls
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Seniors
Kelsie Schindler and
Claire Bollin both celebrated their Senior Day with surpassing the 100 career point mark in a Fisher uniform, as the No. 20 St. John Fisher College Cardinals won their tenth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, taking down Elmira 21-1 at Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher improves to 15-2 overall and 7-1 in the Empire 8, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
After earning victories in their last 10 games, the Cardinals locked up the number two seed in next weekend's Empire 8 Conference Tournament and surpassed the 15-win mark for the third consecutive season. Fisher will take on the third seeded Nazareth, while the hosts and number one seeded Stevens will take on Utica on Saturday, May 5
th.
Prior to the opening whistle, the women's lacrosse team celebrated and honored seniors Bollin, Schindler,
Morgan Young,
Mackenzie LeVan, and
Molly Maguire for their outstanding careers and commitment to the women's lacrosse program.
Aside from both Schindler and Bollin notching their 100
th career points, Bollin also broke the Fisher women's lacrosse program record for most draw controls in a single season, which previously was 93 in 2011. The Webster, N.Y. native currently sits second on the all-time list in career draw controls with 160.
As the first half started, Fisher jumped out to a quick six goal lead within the first 13 minutes, as LeVan and Bollin each tallied hat-tricks to start the game. Schindler notched two quick assists, while
Allison Rupp and
Jenna Lippert added assists as well.
The Cardinals found the back of the net three more times over the next 11 minutes, when Rupp,
Logan Chase, and
Molly Rourke tallied their first goals of the afternoon.
The Soaring Eagles got on the scoreboard at the 6:18 mark of the first half, cutting the Fisher lead to 9-1. However, four more Fisher shots from
Sara Roman,
Olivia Marziale, Young, and
Alyssa Sabotka were able to beat the Elmira goalkeeper, putting the Cardinals up 13-1 as the halftime horn sounded.
Fisher started the second half of action much like the first, as Lippert scored just 46 seconds in, to start a run of four Cardinal goals before the 20-minute mark.
Maria Hristodoulou scored twice for the Cardinals, with Bollin picking up her 5
th point on the day.
At the 18:47 mark of the second half, Schindler notched her 100
th career point with an unassisted goal. Bollin was not far behind, as she assisted on a
Molly Tice goal at the 10:59 mark for her century mark point.
The Cardinal defense was able to hold Elmira to just five shots in the game, which helped them finish off the season a perfect 9-0 at Growney Stadium.
Maguire was credited with the win after finishing with two saves, moving her record to 6-2 on the season, while
Claudia Mocciaro saw the second half action and finished with two saves. Tice led the way defensively with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while
Logan Chase added a game-high four ground balls.
