Brophy and Pasquale Named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America

Anthony Brophy and Thomas Pasquale of the St. John Fisher College Department of Athletics have been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America for their outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the field of play on the Academic All-District team for New York State.

To be considered, a student-athlete must have reached their sophomore year and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30.  Nominees must have also made a significant impact on their team's success on the field of play.  Those recognized will now move be in the running to be named Academic All-American, which will be announced later this month.
 
Pasquale, a biology major, carried a 3.86 grade-point average while helping to lead the baseball team to 29 wins during the 2018 campaign.  Pasquale led the team and was among the Empire 8 Conference's leaders with a .348 batting average as the Endicott native produced 57 hits in 164 at-bats.  Pasquale led the team and ranked third in the conference with 15 doubles while his 42 runs scored was the third-most on the roster.  The sophomore infielder manned the hot corner for the Cardinals and played in 41 games overall including 40 starts.  Pasquale accounted for 17 multi-hit games this season including a career-best four-hit effort in Fisher's win over Husson in Florida. 

Additionally, Pasquale notched one triple, two home runs and 29 RBI during his second season in a Fisher uniform.  He led the team with a .446 on-base percentage while his .488 slugging percentage put him fifth among his teammates.

The D3baseball.com Rookie of the Year in 2017, Brophy was named All-District with a 3.89 GPA during his sophomore season.

Brophy, who was named the Empire 8's Pitcher and Rookie of the Year last season, made 12 starts on the hill for Fisher during the 2018 campaign and pitched to a team-leading 2.99 earned run average.  In 69.1 innings of work, the North Tonawanda native tallied 55 strikeouts and showed precision control after allowing just eight walks all season – the fewest in the Empire 8 among starting pitchers. 

The accounting major pitched four complete games and added one shutout to his resume in 2018.  Brophy held opposing batters to a .268 average at the plate and finished the season with a 3-3 record.
