Fisher in 17th Place Through 54 Holes at NCAA Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The St. John Fisher College men's golf team wrapped up its third round of play at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Thursday in 17th place after carding a combined team score of 303 (+15) at the par-72 West Course at Grandover Resort. Through 54 holes, the Cardinals, who entered the day tied for 15th place and were one of just 18 teams to make the cut, sit at 40 strokes over for the championship (294-303-307-904).
Methodist (-1) will take a 10 stroke lead into the final round on Friday while Washington & Lee (+9) sits in second. Guilford is three back at +12 while Texas-Tyler (+15) and Concordia-Texas (+18) round out the top five.
Christopher Fritch fired the low round of the day for Fisher as the Gansevoort native walked off the course with a 73 (+1). Fritch, who posted a triple bogey on the par-four 10th hole, recovered quickly as the junior birdied the 11th before making the turn at three-over. The front nine was a different story as Fritch had a perfect side. He birdied the first and eighth holes to finish the front two-under overall. Through 54 holes, Fritch currently sits in a tie for 74th place with a combined score of 14-over.
Andrew Fedele posted a pair of birdies on the day and wrapped up his round tied for 66th place at +12 after carding a 77 (+5) on Thursday.
Nicholas Calabrese, who had shot a 74 during Wednesday's second round of play, will head into the final round tied for 66th place after shooting a 77 (+5). The junior pared seven of nine holes on the front nine after notching three bogeys on the back.
Christopher Thompson also had a strong showing on Thursday after finishing the round with a +4, 76. Thompson began on the 10th hole and was six-over through the first five holes, however, the junior rebounded nicely and finished out the back nine with a pair of birdies to make the turn at four-over. From there, Thompson would bogey the first hole before stringing together seven pars and a birdie over the final eight holes. Thompson currently leads Fisher in the individual standings as the Saratoga Springs native in tied for 48th place at nine-over through three rounds of play.
The Cardinals will look to continue their climb up the leaderboard on Friday morning as the NCAA Championship concludes with the final 18 holes at Grandover Resort.
