Fisher Moves on in NCAAS After Making Cut; Cardinals Enter Thursday Tied for 15th Place

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a strong start in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Grandover Resort on Tuesday, the St. John Fisher College men's golf team assured itself a spot in the final rounds on Wednesday after the Cardinals, who played the par-72 East Course, were among the top 18 teams on the leaderboard after 36 holes. At the conclusion of the day, the top 18 teams advanced while any team below the cut line saw its season come to an end.
Fisher, which will enter Thursday's round tied for 15th place at +25 overall, fired a second round 307 (+19) to bring its two-day total to 601 – 23 strokes of the lead pace. Host Guilford College currently sits atop the leaderboard with a two-day score of 578 (+2) while Washington & Lee and Methodist University are three strokes back at 581 (+5). Emory sits in fourth place at +6 while Texas-Tyler rounded out the top five at +7.
After carding an opening round 77 yesterday,
Nicholas Calabrese fired the low round for the Cardinals on Wednesday with a 74 (+2). The junior was one-under on the back nine after posting a pair of birdies before closing out his round with five pars over the final six holes.
Christopher Thompson was two-over through his first 10 holes and concluded his second round with six pars in seven holes to finish the day at +4 (76).
Christopher Fritch shaved a stroke off his opening round score to wrap up the day at six-over, 78, while
Colin McGaugh recorded a par on eight on nine holes on the back nine before closing out his second round of play at +7.
Andrew Fedele, who shot even par on Tuesday, wrapped up play on Wednesday with a seven-over, 79.
The Cardinals will look to move up the leaderboard on Thursday morning as the team tees off on the third round of play at Grandover Resort.
