Three Emprie 8 softball student-athletes have been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America for their outstanding efforts in the classroom and on the field of play.  Alexa Silk of The Sage Colleges and Monica Moses and Katie Mazierski of St. John Fisher college were among the players from New York State to be named Academic All-District.

To be considered, a student-athlete must have reached their sophomore year and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30.  Nominees must have also made a significant impact on their team's success on the field of play.  Those recognized will now move be in the running to be named Academic All-American, which will be announced later this month.

A  double major in statistics and economics, Moses was among the top pitchers in the Empire 8 Conference all season as the senior was named Honorable Mention last week.  Moses, who owned a 3.57 grade-point average, enters the Super Regional round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship with a 9-2 overall record.  Over 82.1 innings of work, the Olean native has pitched to a 2.72 earned run average while her 83 strikeouts this season ranks fourth among all conference pitchers.

Moses, who was a part of seven complete games and four shutouts this season, reached double digit strikeout totals twice during her senior year including a season-best 11 Ks in a shutout win over Houghton College.  Her best outing this season came on March 28th as she tossed eight no-hit innings against the University of Rochester.

Mazierski, who was named Academic All-District last season, continued to dominant opposing pitching during her senior year.  The North Tonawanda native, who owns a 3.65 cumulative GPA, became the Empire 8 Conference's all-time hits leader earlier this month and now sits just three away from breaking Jen Wilder's program record of 223 career hits.

Mazierski, who was named First-Team All-Conference last week for the fourth straight season, leads Fisher with a .464 batting average.  Her 45 hits in just 30 games ranks second among her teammates while her 23 runs scored ranks fourth overall.  To date, the senior infielder has accounted for four doubles, one triple and 13 RBI to go along with a .526 slugging percentage and a team-leading 11 stolen bases.

Silk batted a team-leading .413 with 33 hits, two doubles, four triples and 14 RBIs'. She had a .538 slugging percentage to go with her .434 on-base percentage. She also had 15 stolen bases including a pair on the final day of the 2018 season to pen her name to Sage's career stolen base record. Against Nazareth, she broke Kristen Beikirch's stolen base mark of 65 with a pair of stolen bases in the second game.

Silk graduated with a 3.845 grade point average as a nursing student.
