No. 37 Stevens draws Salem State in NCAA First Round

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 7, 2018) – No. 37 Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Tennis will take on Salem State University in the First Round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship, the NCAA announced today. It will be the first meeting between the programs in at least 15 years.
Stevens returns to the NCAA Championship for the ninth straight year after capturing a ninth Empire 8 Conference Championship with a sweep of Houghton College in Saturday's title match.
Salem State (13-4) is making its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2008. The Vikings defeated UMASS-Boston 5-1 on May 5 to win the program's second Little East Conference title.
Stevens and Salem State will play on Friday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m. as part of the regional hosted by No. 3 Bowdoin College. The winner of the Stevens-Salem State match will advance to take on No. 27 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday.
"If we are able to get past our first round match, I would love the opportunity to play RPI in the second round," commented head coach
Steve Gachko. "We played them over spring break down in Florida and I believe we improved as a team since we faced them in mid-March."
Yeshiva University and Ramapo College meet in the other Friday's other first-round pairing.
