HOBOKEN, N.J. (May 6, 2018) – The No. 23 Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team earned an at-large bid to the 2018 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship on Selection Sunday. The Ducks will tangle with No. 9 Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine on Sunday, May 13 at 1 p.m.
Stevens brings a 14-5 record into the NCAA Tournament, won the Empire 8 regular season title and made an appearance in the Empire 8 title game earlier on Sunday. Both the Ducks and Polar Bears earned byes in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Ducks earned victories over two ranked teams this year; No. 12 Wesleyan University and No. 20 St. John Fisher College in back-to-back games at the end of March.
This is the first NCAA appearance for Stevens since winning back-to-back Empire 8 Championships in 2010 and 2011. Both years ended with appearances in the Sweet 16. Incidentally, the Ducks' last NCAA game was against Bowdoin, a tight 13-10 loss on May 14, 2011 that featured what were the No. 10 and No. 11 teams in the country at the time on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford.
Additional information will be announced by Bowdoin on Monday.
The Polar Bears (13-5) earned an at-large bid after a season that saw them advance to the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship game Sunday against Middlebury College. Bowdoin, currently ranked ninth in the latest IWLCA Division III poll, defeated 14th-ranked Wesleyan and second-ranked Amherst before falling to sixth-ranked Middlebury in the finals.
Bowdoin returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.
