2018 Softball All-Tournament Team and MVP

The 2018 Empire 8 Softball All-Tournament Team has been announced. 

St. John Fisher – Sarah Kubik (MVP), Lindsey Thayer, Mary Claire Grosvenor, Katie Mazierski
Utica – Gabriella Caccamo, Jamie Miller and Jacqueline Aronin
Alfred – Becca Alexander and Jessica Wilcox
Stevens – Lauren Shirley
 
Junior Sarah Kubik of the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team helped the Cardinals win the Empire 8 Championship over the weekend to earn the Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.  Kubik, who hit .600 in three tournament games, was named the Most Valuable Player. She went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two home runs, four runs scored and three walks.
 
Lindsey Thayer went 3-0 last week to lead St. John Fisher to the 2018 #E8 Championship. Thayer allowed one earned run in 17 innings of work. She struck out 21 batters and surrendered four hits and four walks in all while limiting the opposing batters to a combined .074 average.
 
Grosvenor hit .556 (5-of-9) in the tournament including a homerun and a double. She also score two runs and tallied five RBI.
 
Mazierski hit .625 (5-of-8) at the plate over three games played with four runs scored and an RBI. In the field, she had three putouts and one assist with no errors. 
 
Caccamo pitched 12 innings throughout the tournament including a complete 7-inning game against Stevens to start the tournament. She faced 55 batters and only allowed two walks.  
 
Aronin hit .444 (4-of-9) in the tournament including two doubles and five RBI against Alfred to help Utica advance to the Championship game for the first time since 2013.

Miller recorded three hits in the tournament and was perfect from behind the plate with 11 putouts and two assists.
 
Wilcox went 1-2 over the weekend, pitching a total of 16.1 innings through three apperances. She allowed 17 hits and three earned runs over that stretch, while striking out 11 batters. 

Alexander went 2-of-6 (.333) at the plate with two RBI. She drew two walks, scored two runs and was perfect in the outfield with two putouts. 
 
Shirley recorded two hits in the tournament and two putouts.
