HOBOKEN, N.J. (June 15, 2018) – After an 18-3 record and the program's first Empire 8 Conference championship since 2012, the Stevens Institute of Technology Men's Lacrosse coaching staff earned Division III East Region Coaching Staff of the Year accolades, the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) announced late Thursday.
Under the guidance of ninth-year head coach
Gene Peluso and assistants
Kevin Stockel,
Andrew Nicol and
Brian DiBetta, Stevens set a new program record for victories in a single season (18) and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004.
"We are proud of this award as a staff," Peluso commented. "At the end of the day, Coach of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year awards really come down to the production of our student-athletes. We feel that this is another award for the players of our program. Our coaching staff had a great balance and worked real hard this year, but, credit our players because they made it both fun and rewarding.."
With Peluso at the helm, Stevens has compiled a 118-46 record and Peluso's 0.720 winning percentage is the highest for any coach in the 134-year history of the program. This year, five student-athletes garnered All-American recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), seven were tabbed to the IMLCA All-East Region teams, and three Ducks achieved USILA Scholar All-American status.
