PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Peter Girardi of the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's track and field team will make history on Thursday as the recent graduate will become the first student-athlete in team history to compete in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, which will take place June 21-24 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Girardi will take part in the 400 meter hurdles and is scheduled to compete in a preliminary heat at 4:30 (EST) on Thursday.  Should he qualify, he will move on to the semifinal round on Friday with the finals set to begin on Saturday afternoon.

The Championship will be broadcasted via the NBC family of networks.  Thursday's action will be streamed on NBC Sports Gold while the finals will air on local NBC cable affiliates.  For a complete look at the broadcast schedule, CLICK HERE.

Girardi punched his ticket to the National Championship after posting a scorching time at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship last month in La Crosse, Wis.  Girardi, who won the 400 hurdles and became just the third individual national champion in the College's history, blew away the field with a time of 50.50, which not only shattered his own team record, but is currently the fifth fastest time ever recorded in Division III history.

Girardi, who wrapped up his career with six All-American honors to his name, posted back-to-back runner-up finishes at the NCAA Championship in 2016 and 2017 and was instrumental in helping lead Fisher to a tie for seventh place at NCAAS, which marked the best finish in program history.

This season, he guided the Cardinals to a pair of championships as the team won the both the Empire 8 Indoor and Outdoor titles with Girardi being named the Track Athlete of the Meet in each.

One of the most decorated athletes to ever don the Cardinals and Gold, Girardi closed out his career having been named the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Year three times overall and was named All-Conference nine times in total.
