Brockport No. 6 in D3Football.com Preseason Poll; Alfred and Fisher Receiving Votes
The College at Brockport football team is ranked No. 6 in the 2018 D3Football.com Preseason Top 25 Poll, while Alfred University and St. John Fisher College are among teams receiving votes.
Brockport received 453 votes in the 2018 D3Football.com Preseason Poll. The D3football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly. Points are awarded on a 25-24-23-22-etc. basis. Defending NCAA Division III National Champion Mount Union is ranked first to open 2018, receiving 623 points, including 24 first-place votes.
Alfred received 23 votes, missing the top 25 by only 26 votes, and St. John Fisher received two votes.
The Golden Eagles had their best season in program history in 2017, which ended in the NCAA Semifinals. The team surpassed its previous wins record after the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and did not stop there, winning two more games after that point. The appearance in the Final Four is also the furthest a Brockport football team has ever advanced in the NCAA Championship Playoffs.
On the road to the semifinals, Brockport re-wrote the school record books, breaking nearly every previous record on the offensive side of the ball, while boasting a top-ten defense all season.
Brockport will host Hobart College in its season opener on Saturday, Sept. 1, while the Alfred will host Thiel College and Fisher will host Washington and Jefferson College.
