KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 13, 2018) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team opens the 2018 season ranked as the No. 15 team in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
The Ducks finished the 2017 season with a 13-7-2 record, while posting a 5-1-1 mark in conference play. Men's soccer reached the NCAA Tournament after 2018 graduate Jonas Melendez's dramatic final-second goal to defeat Sage.
In the NCAA Tournament, Stevens went on an exciting run to the program's eighth Sweet 16, topping both Middlebury and SUNY Cortland in thrilling fashion. The team's postseason run ended at the hands of eventual national champion, Messiah, in a well-played, one-goal match.
Stevens returns United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-East Region forward Daniel Aversano and six additional players that were all-Empire 8 Conference selections, including rising seniors Nicholas Cousillas and Aaron Henry. Cousillas also earned E8 Tournament Most Valuable Player accolades.
Stevens was the lone Empire 8 Conference team ranked in the poll.
