Pontius, Mongillo Join ’Wick as Interim Head Coaches
ONEONTA, NY – Two familiar faces return to Hartwick Athletics as interim head coaches for the 2018-2019 academic year. After a two-year hiatus,
Andy Pontius will return for her eighteenth season at the helm of the Hartwick women's tennis program.
Marissa Mongillo, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant, will serve as interim head coach of the women's lacrosse program.
Pontius spent 17 years from 1999-2016 at 'Wick, serving as the head coach of both men's and women's tennis programs before retiring. In her last season coaching the women in 2015, Pontius led the Hawks to an 8-5 overall mark, a program record 5-3 record in the Empire 8, and a conference tournament appearance. The winningest coach in 'Wick women's tennis history, Pontius is just one victory away from her 100
th piloting the team.
This past spring, Mongillo helped women's lacrosse to its second straight winning campaign with an 8-6 record. In her first season with the program, she aided in the Hawks' 10-win season, which was the most wins for Hartwick since 2006. The back-to-back winning seasons are the first for the program since 1997 and 1998.
