PHOENIX, N.Y. –
The St. John Fisher College men's golf team holds a slim two-stroke lead through the opening 18 holes of the Empire 8 Fall Championship after carding a combined team score of 300 (+12) at the par-72 Timber Banks Golf Club.  SUNY Oswego sits in second place at +14 while Utica College rounds out the top three at +24.

Fisher, which has won the Empire 8 Championship 15 times overall including eight consecutive seasons, leads the field with 68 pars and is tied for the lead with 11 birdies overall.

Andrew Fedele was the top golfer on the day as the Rochester native fired four birdies on the front nine to make the turn at four-under.  Fedele made three bogeys on the back nine to end his round as the only golfer to break par (-1) to hold down first place on the leader board.

Junior Colin McGaugh had a fine showing and enters Sunday's round tied for third overall at +3.  McGaugh made the turn at +1 before tripling the par-five 11th.  The Hamilton native rebounded nicely, however, with birdies on 14 and 16 to remain in the hunt.

Michael Long ended the day five strokes behind the leader at +4 after an opening round 76.  Long, who birdied the opening hole, had eight pars on the back nine.  Nicholas Calabrese is tied for 10th place following Saturday's round at six-over (78) while Christopher Thompson, who won the St. Joh Fisher College Invitational last weekend at -1, is tied for 16th at +8 (80).

The Cardinals will look to add to their lead Sunday morning with the final 18 holes of the Empire 8 Fall Championship.  The tournament will be decided in April with 36 more holes.
