UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team tallied its first win of the 2018 campaign after the Cardinals downed the Pioneers of Utica College, 1-0. With the win the Cardinals moved to 1-6-1 overall, and 1-1 in Empire 8 play. The Pioneers fell to 2-5-1 on the year, and dropped to 0-2 in the conference.

Fisher fired off four shots in the first 20 minutes of action, three of which were on net but stayed knotted up at zero at the end of the first half.

The Cardinals had a chance to score in the closing seconds of the first half as Dallas Kaiser ripped a shot that was eventually saved by the Utica keeper.

Fisher rocketed six total shots in the first 45 minutes of play with Justin Bonetto leading the Cardinals with two shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Miles tallied a single save for the Cardinals to keep the teams squared at zero heading into the second half.

Fisher's lone goal came in the 72nd minute of play as Rochester native Brennan Brown notched his first collegiate goal. The assist was credited to junior Joe Balls on the play.

The one goal would prove to be enough as the Cardinals staved off the Pioneers offense and hung on to claim their first victory of the 2018 season.

The Cardinals closed out the afternoon with 12 total shots, nine of which were on net. Freshman Bonetto led Fisher with four shots, while Aaron Wilkins added two of his own.

Miles registered his first win in net as the Boston, Massachusetts native saved one shot on the day.

Fisher looks to keep the momentum going as the Cardinals are set to play on Tuesday, September 25th at Union College.
