PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team opened up Homecoming Weekend with its fifth consecutive victory, defeating Elmira College 5-0 in Empire 8 Conference action. The Cardinals out-shot the Soaring Eagles 18-1 in the game, to improve to 6-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Empire 8, while Elmira falls to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
It didn't take Fisher long to take the lead in the first half, as sophomore Bre Socker found the back of the net just 46 seconds after the opening whistle for her seventh goal of the 2018 season.
Coming off of a hat-trick performance on Tuesday versus Houghton, Lauren Fazio took a feed from Socker in front of the Soaring Eagles cage and finished off her fourth goal of the season. With only 47 seconds remaining till half time, Fazio scored her second of the game off of a beautiful pass from Lindsay Scott, putting the Cardinals ahead 4-0 heading into the halftime break.

Both teams were held scoreless for the remaining 33 minutes of the game, as Fisher senior goalkeeper Ashley Maynard was credited with her sixth victory of the season and 14
th career shutout.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, when they welcome the Ithaca College Bombers to Growney Stadium for a non-conference matchup at 5 p.m.
