Utica Takes Care of Business at Home

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team was at home on Saturday, for an Empire 8 meeting with Elmira College. The Pioneers improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play with a 7-0 victory over the Soaring Eagles.
 
Mikayla Blumenstock got things started early on thanks to a Jenna Mazza assist, giving UC a 1-0 lead just 6:52 into the match. Kayla Longo put in a second goal for the team off of a corner kick opportunity as the game drew closer to halftime. Utica led Elmira 2-0 at the mid-game break.
 
In the opening minutes of the second half, Kierra Caissey was able to score two goals within 30 seconds of each other to give the Pioneers a commanding 4-0 lead. Abby Reilly and Mikayla Blumenstock both got assists to help Caissey find the back of the net twice.
 
Blumenstock would register a second assist later in the second half, to give Gabrielle Esposito her first goal of the 2018 season. Jessica Levy would bury her first score of the year and even earned an assist. Freshman Taylor Miller recorded the first collegiate goal of her career to put UC up 7-0 at the end of the game.
 
Freshman Ashley Aguilar tallied two assists for the first points of her college career in the win. Jessica Levy and Carly Craft both notched one assist as well. The win now gives Utica just one loss in the last six games this season.
 
Allison Wagner and Emily Hill combined for two saves and helped secure the shutout win for UC. The white and orange outshot the Soaring Eagles 35-3 in the contest and drew nine more corner kicks as well.
 
Elmira goalie, Gabe Carmona made 20 saves in her efforts in the net for the team. The loss puts Elmira's record to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2 in E8 conference play.
 
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, as they will host Cazenovia College for some non-conference competition. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
