Women's tennis blanks Utica, 9-0, to remain unbeaten

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth made short work of Utica in an Empire 8 women's tennis match Saturday as the Golden Flyers won all six singles matches in straight sets for a 9-0 win over the Pioneers.

Nazareth remained unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the E8. Utica is 0-7 overall and 0-5 in conference matches.

The Golden Flyers jumped out the a strong start by winning all three doubles matches. Seniors Marisa Joyce and Jackie Lisak played at #1 and won easily 8-2. They were followed by senior Elizabeth Karstedt and junior Maelah Nadeau, who comnbined at #2 for an 8-0 win. At #3 freshmen Caroline Breitweiser and Lauren Carr combined to secure an 8-0 win.

In singles play, Karstedt played at #1 and took an easy 6-1, 6-0 triumph. She was followed in the lineup by Joyce, Nadeau, Alian Burgos, Erin Schantz and Jessica Michels, each of whom recorded straight set wins.

Nazareth returns to action Wednesday at Alfred at 4 p.m.
