Presidents run winning streak to seven, shut out Nazareth, 3-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team extended its record to 7-0 after a 3-0 victory over the Nazareth College Golden Flyers.
 
W&J out shot Nazareth, 46-1, including 24 taken in the first half by the Presidents, followed by another 22 in the second.
 
In the 20th minute, senior Claire Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) scored first to put the Presidents ahead. Following the early lead, sophomore Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) scored her first goal of the season with 1:03 left in the opening period. The team also accumulated 13 penalty corners against the Golden Flyer's zero in the first half.
 
The second half included the final goal of the contest which came from Shaak in the 66th minute to bring her total goal count on the season to three. Rachel Fromm (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) assisted her on the goal.
 
W&J's defense held Nazareth to just one shot, which missed the target. W&J gathered another 19 penalty corners in the second half compared to Nazareth's two. Goalie, Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) earned her fifth victory and ran her personal scoreless streak to 350 minutes.
 
The Presidents, who were receiving votes in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association Top 20 poll, take on the St. John Fisher Cardinals at Cameron Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
